I shopped at Deserres (Main St location)in early February 2010. I went into the store looking for only one item: an 8"x10" wood, front loading floating frame (a frame unavailable in the town where I live). With the courteous help of the staff I found the frames -- plenty in stock and reasonably priced. I purchased several and am now trying to arrange for long distance shopping so that I can access these frames for as long as I need. My experience was more than "satisfactory" and I wonder as I read the negative reviews if I was in the same store as others.
I frequently shop at the Broadway / hemlock location to buy my materials for my art practice and other crafty projects. Quite often I have many questions about products, brands and product usage. The Staff at Hemlock location is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and Helpful!
Considering how low paid customer service jobs these individuals put in a considerable effort and knowledge base into there work! Most of the individuals working there are artists themselves and therefore have a great understanding of the product.
I think these individual's compensation should be greater to reflect their expertise/ commitment to the arts. If employees are compensated better they put more effort into their job and Resent working for the man a little less.

great prices & helpful staff...
I am unsatisfied too...service and product knowledge is NIL..the staff should have 6 months training to get familiar with the products you sell..you have nice art supplies..but no one knows anything about anything its mind baffling..the staff all seem so dumb..or they are all high on crack one or the other or both..please get some knowledgeable staff..

Message: Hello I was at your location on main street in vancouver on saturday the 11 of april I have been going to the same store for over 10 years and spend thousands of dollars But I have notice since the name changed from loomis to deserres that the quality of service has dropped tremedously and the knowledge of product from your staff members in nil when you ask they don't know anything. The reason for my email is that today when I was at your main street location I was treated so rude by a male cashier the user name was KKing terminal 003 transaction number 110628 this staff member was so rude to me that I talked with the manager asking if the critiria for hiring his staff is that they have to be rude, after leaving the store with no satisfaction after talking to the manager that never said anything. I can honestly say that I was totaly disgusted in the way the customer service is at this store. The staff have no knowledge of products and are just rude and stupid and the manager just doesnt seem to care. I am sorry that is the way you treat your customers this is not good business VERY ANNOYED AND DISSAPOINTED
