EcoTech installed 11 windows in our home in March 2021. Immediately after installation, we contacted EcoTech to report damage to 3 window screens that were installed. 9 months later, and after 3 service appointments where Ecotech failed to show up, these have still not been repaired despite repeated calls to EcoTech and assurances from their Service Manager Maris that the issue would be rectified. Ecotech cancelled the first appointment without any notice until just a couple of hours beforehand on the day we were supposed to receive the service, and then the second appointment was scheduled for over a month later, and the technician did not show up for the appointment during the agreed time. The most recent missed appointment was this morning December 18 at 9am. They had almost a month of lead time to ensure this appointment was met, but they did not perform and no one contacted us. We cannot keep setting aside time for technicians that do not show up. Maris confirmed both the second and third appointments with us. EcoTech customer service is atrocious. We have been provided a 25 year warranty on our windows which is meaningless since EcoTech clearly has no intention of doing any warranty work. This is only window screens at this time. Imagine if any of our windows actually malfunction! We would be out of luck based on this experience. We will never again do business with Ecotech.

Ecotech Issues

June 2018
– New windows – they were great, looked awesome and installers were lovely
Late Summer 2019
– My mom tried to remove the screens to clean them, but the pins holding them in place were totally eroded
- She contacted the company – a man named Phillip – and explained the situation. He assured her that the problem would be resolved, but they agreed to wait until Spring as it was too cold to wash the windows at this time
- She called to touch base a few weeks later and was notified Philip was indeed fired
February 2020
- In contact again – this time with Joseph - and explained the whole situation AGAIN. Joseph assured her someone would come and look at the issue, but then a lockdown was implemented, and they were unable to come due to these restrictions
August 31, 2020
- Lockdown was lifted, and Albert came to look at the damage. He was shocked at the erosion and damage - one of the pins actually broke in his hand
- Albert took 4 screens with him that day (3 in the living room, 1 in her bedroom)
- My mom called Joseph again a few days later, and Joseph said not to worry – he was sitting in his office “looking at the screens right now” and he would send them to be fixed
- A couple weeks after that, my mom called to check base and Joseph said that the screens were damaged in the truck during transport – even though he said prior that they were sitting in his office. This makes zero sense. He also said he wasn’t sure where they would get the screens as the company they worked with no longer existed. My mom contacted her friend who worked in this industry before he retired. He recommended Screen Co. (based out of Woodbridge). He and Joseph spoke on the phone about this
- A few weeks past again, and when my mom called, they told her that Joseph was on two weeks holidays
- Two weeks went by, she called again, and they notified her that Joseph has retired
May 28, 2021
- I – Caitlyn, Tammy’s daughter – reached out to EcoTech on my mom’s behalf given her busy work schedule. My husband and I also live in this residence. I spoke to Richard on this particular day. I expressed my concern and asked for this to be resolved as I believe this is now affecting my mom’s health in a negative way. Richard said that he would look into having the pins replaced – but noted THERE WAS NOTHING ON FILE.
- I questioned the fact that we had been waiting two years and still had no answer. He apologized and assured me he would send it into the order part of the company and get it sorted out. He also said he would look into the screens being replaced and call me later that day to confirm
- I also asked Richard to speak with Matt Ginzburg – the owner. He was very reluctant to transfer me or give me any contact information. I questioned this and thought it was weird that the owner of a company would not have contact information. Richard said that Matt “did not like to deal with things like this” and “that he probably wouldn’t call me back anyway”. This was a very odd interaction and the push back I received was perplexing
- He eventually – after tremendous pushback – transferred me through and I left a message to extension 205 – with no previous recording letting me know whose voicemail it is
June 1, 2021
- Called again to get an update as Richard did not call me back like he said he would. Renato was the one I dealt with this time
- After I explained it to Renato, he apologized and said he would look into it. He didn’t see any notes on file, but said he wasn’t part of the service department so that might be why. He told me he would call back within the hour
- Approximately 20 minutes later Richard called me back this time and said he had ordered the pins and that they would probably call us in the next two weeks to set up an appointment to fix them
- I asked Richard about the four missing screens. He said they did not know where to source them out as they were “old” (3 years old to be exact) and the supplier they used was no longer in business. He said we would have to source them out and they would reimburse us up to $400. Wait a minute, if you have the frames, and just ordered the pins, why can’t a window company put new screens in? I told him we did not have the same resources they had as a window and door company, but reminded him of the company my mom’s friend referred them to – Screen Co. He said there was nothing they could do – and we would have to find it ourselves. I told him I could not trust that they would reimburse us – as they have proven time and time again they are not trustworthy. He said again – there was nothing they could do – but he would send me an email confirming this – which I have yet to receive. I asked to speak with a manager or owner again – and was told AGAIN that there was no one I could speak to and that the owner – Matt Ginzberg did not like to deal with these matters.
- I asked to be transferred to Matt’s voicemail again and left another message – now I have left two for him
- When we got off the phone, I called their answering service – 1-888-934-7682. I spoke with someone on the phone and asked for Matt’s extension again to confirm the extension was right. She mentioned there were two owners – Mark and Matt Ginzberg and transferred me through to Mark’s voicemail this time where I left a message
I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. I am a patient woman, as is my mom. However, I feel like she is being taken advantage of and I am at a loss as to what we can do. My mom has been through so much and I am tired of people trying to take advantage of her. My mom is a 61 year-old widow. She has chronic health issues including but not limited to COPD, Asthma, and heart conditions, and she cannot even open her windows because the screens are missing to get fresh air into the house. This is not only posing a risk to her health, but also her safety, the safety of my nephews and my dogs. If someone opened that window – it is a two story drop to the ground. I believe I need not to expand on that thought any further.
I am hoping that by reaching out and exposing this company for what they are that it will not only resolve the issue, but prevent it from happening in the future tp anyone else. As per the Better Business Bureaus reports, there are other customers experiencing negative issues with this company. I understand we are in a pandemic and life is very challenging, but we have been more than accommodating. My final question is, how difficult is it for a company to fix their errors and rectify a situation posing IMMEDIATE health and safety concerns to their customers who have spent approximately $12,000?

An absolute failure to respect commitments or deadlines. This company has sent someone to install our door without the proper handleset and without letting us know ahead of time (but still asking to be paid in full). It's been months and we've been unable to get the install completed, unable to get a refund on uninstalled parts and all they'll tell you is "we've ordered the parts, we're still waiting for the box, it should be just a couple of weeks." Not worthy of trust.

The Ecotech installers came to our home in January 2017 to replace all windows and a door.
The installers showed up and removed all of our windows and the door all at once in the dead of winter.
There was a strong, freezing cold draft throughout the house which was carrying dust and insulation all over our home. Doors were slamming open and closed because of the strong wind ripping through our home.
The crew then decided they were going to break for lunch at our kitchen table while our home still had half of the windows pulled out while we sat there in our winter coats and covered in blankets shivering.
The crew finished their lunch without bothering to clean up pieces of food, crumbs and peanut butter smeared on the table.
They left the first day once the new windows were installed but said they would come back the next day to caulk and do the exterior work.
They left our home in shambles.
There was chunks of insulation and dust on every surface of our home. They left screws all over our property. They left pieces of trim with nails sticking out, screws, exacto blades, drywall, and insulation chunks scattered across our deck which is where our dog uses to go to the washroom.
They also left all of our old windows leaned up on our neighbours house and fence and windows scattered across our property.
I had to spend hours cleaning the interior of our home just to make it livable and so I could put my dog down on the ground and not have to worry about him eating insulation. Every surface of my home needed to be cleaned and wiped, vacuumed and swept. Even now, weeks after I am still finding dust settling around the house daily as it obviously made it into my vents as well.
They treated our home like a dump.
When they came back the second day to do the exterior work they left several things half done and even said they could not complete all of the exterior caulking because they couldn't reach their gun to finish it. The installers then loaded up the old windows and larger pieces of garage from my property but still leaving behind screws, insulation and bits of wood all over the front and backyard.
The installers wanted to me pay the remainder of what we owed on the spot but I told them my husband would need to see the windows before I handed over a cheque and they reluctantly agreed.
When my husband got home from work he was appalled to see the "finished job".
The flashing that they installed was done incorrectly. There were golf ball sized holes along where the flashing and siding meet up to one another allowing for water and snow to accumulate.
They chose not to install new drip edges for many of the windows and left the old ones up which they had all bent up and that did not span the width of our windows allowing weather and moisture to get beyond the siding and flashing. We paid for stud to stud new installation which means we should have received all new drip edges.
As stated before they also did not finish the caulking because they said they couldn't.
We could feel a draft from almost every window inside our home and an extreme draft coming from under the sliding door.

We contacted the Ecotech sales representative and told him all of our issues. We said that we would pay the remainder we owed when the job was finished and the issues were addressed. The sales rep asked us to write an email addressing all of our concerns and to send it to him and he would forward it to the owner Mark.
We wrote an email and included photos as well and gave a summary of all of the issues and complaints we had about the crew as well.
The secretary for Ecotech spoke with my husband over the phone and told him our email was sent to the owner Mark and everyone, including the crew.
We told the sales rep we were not comfortable having the same installation crew back in our home after what we went through the first time and especially since they know we complained. We wanted someone competent to fix the mistakes and shotty workmanship they left us with.
The sales rep said he spoke with the owner Mark and he refused to send a different crew.
We asked to have the owner Mark call us. Mark first called my husband and was unapologetic and stated that if we had issues he would send the same crew and that he didn't have anyone else. My husband said we both did not want the same crew back and that I, his wife was uncomfortable having them back to our home. Mark then got off the phone with my husband and immediately called me and began pestering me to agree to have them back in our home. I briefly reminded Mark of all the reasons I did not want the same installers back in our home and he continued to pester me and raise his voice saying we had no other options and we could just pay him the remainder.
I told him according to the contract we were to pay the remainder when the work was all completed to our satisfaction and it was not. Mark began to raise his voice more and mentioned taking each other to court.
I was extremely uneasy with how angry he was becoming over the phone and told him I had to go and was firm on my decision that he find another crew to complete the work.
A day or so later I received a text from Mark saying he would send another person not from the original crew to fix our issues to our satisfaction and we could negotiate the remaining balance due to the hours of cleanup and if there were any issues that could not be resolved.
2 weeks after the original installation, this person arrived to our home and did a satisfactory job in completing most of the errors of the original crew. He installed new flashing where it was needed.
He still could not finish the caulking on one window.
With our cheque book in hand we were passed the phone by the installer with the owner Mark on the other line to discuss the remaining balance.
My husband and I thought that a $500 discount was appropriate due to all of the cleaning (at least 24 hours worth in total and we had just had our ducts cleaned prior to installation which were now flooded with dust and debris) and the fact that we now had to hire someone else to complete the exterior caulking that was left.
Mark became extremely belligerent with my husband and began cursing and yelling. My husband asked Mark what he thought my time was worth considering how many hours I spent cleaning the mess they left and Mark replied "she's at home all day anyway what else does she have to do". Mark then threatened he would have all of the windows in our home ripped out. My husband told him calmly several times that he did not need to swear and treat us like garbage until he began to get frustrated and yell back.
Mark then agreed to the $500 discount after the threat to rip out our windows and my husband passed the phone back over to the installer. My husband and I were fearful of the phone conversation and threats and decided to write out the cheque only deducting $200 off instead of the $500 and be done with it.
Once the installer left my cell phone rang and I picked up not recognizing the number. It was Mark. I immediately told him his installer had left and had the cheque in his hand and not to contact us ever again. Mark began to yell and that's when I told him not to speak to me or contact me again and that I would be writing reviews letting people know what service and treatment we received from his company followed by me hanging up as he was still yelling.

We are now very fearful that Mark or someone will return and vandalize our property or belongings. We are fearful in our own home now. This is the service and treatment we received when we paid almost $8000 to have a professional company work on our home.
This was our honest experience with Ecotech windows and doors company.

It was so refreshing to get a quote from a window company with no pressure (that didn't happen with the other window salespeople). There were a ton of option, and my husband and I had a lot of fun making our choice. I look forward to a less drafty house this fall/winter.

I hired EcoTech to replace the windows in the upstairs of my house. I thought that the job would take a long time, but it didn't. The entire team of installers were so nice- on time and really patient with my kids (they were even nice to my dog!). I would definitely recommend EcoTech if you are looking for an amazing window company that has fair pricing.

After comparing EcoTech to other window companies we chose to go with them because their windows had energy efficiency benefits. When they installed our windows, they instantly did wonders to the exterior appeal of our home. Our neighbours keep telling us how great they look. We are also looking forward to savings on our energy bill-- and more importantly, a warmer/cooler home. Thanks to the EcoTech team for doing an amazing job and delivering on their agreements, on time too!

I'd like to thank Mark from Ecotech windows for being so patient with my questions and helping me to make up my mind. It took a while to settle on a color that I wanted, but with Mark's help I ended up with windows that I'm happy with. Thanks again.

EcoTech Windows is not the cheapest quote we got, but they were the most thorough. Our experience with them was great. Even though there were some tricky issues during the install of our windows, they figured out a workaround and did not make a fuss about it. Really happy we went with our gut and hired them. Have sent them to my in-laws too, and they were happy as well.

Turns out a broken window can be a good thing, when Mark came by to quote the replacement, we found out why our house is so COLD all of the time, our windows were so old. We replaced all of the windows, at a decent cost, and I'm sure that it will save us $ this winter.
