At this current time, I’m still dealing with inconsistencies with their dealership and what feels like a total run-around. I’ve had my vehicle for 2 and ½ months.

BSD System (On-going) – After a month I had noticed an error message stating that there was an issue with the BSD system. It had popped up and stayed which had me worried. The next day it had rained, and the notification had disappeared. I had called Northstar Hyundai and spoke to one of their techs and they had informed me that sometimes, the system can have buildup of dust which can create those errors. I had no need to confirm this because it had gone away. It wasn’t until a few more weeks where the error message would just flicker on my odometer. It would flicker as I was driving or parked, and it just made me feel uneasy as it may choose not to work when I need it most.

I had made an appointment with Southtown Hyundai as I live in the south end of the city and went there for more convenience. I was able to have the service advisor ride in the car with me so he can see what the issue was. He was able to confirm that it was happening, and they shuttled me home so they can look. A few hours later, I had received a call from my advisor, and he had let me know that there was a leak in the transfer case and that the BSD system was broken (wires cut, mounts broken, etc) which was surprising to me as we had just purchased the vehicle. Because of this, I reached out to Northstar to see if there was anything they could do for me as I had just purchased it 2 months ago. They had transferred me to one of their sales managers, Albert. He had informed me that, and I quote “They’re just trying to make money off you, they have families to feed. Bring it here and we will look at it.” All calls recorded. My advisor was kind enough to leave me his name just in case there was any funny business so I can always call him if there were any issues.

Re-seal: apprx.$700.00 AND BSD system = apprx. $4,500.00

I didn’t want to just leave the documentation there, so I had stepped in to speak to someone. I spoke to someone which was another manager at their dealership. I explained the situation and showed him everything that was given and everything that I had received. From the conversation, it seemed as if they would be able to do something for me. The next morning, I was told that they had confirmed that the BSD system was in fact, broken. Their one “change” was that the transfer case was “sweating” and not “Leaking” but eventually will need to be resealed. They gave me a quote for $1,200.00 for the BSD system and nothing for the reseal (price discrepancy from $4500 to $1000 leads me to believe that if there’s so much play in price, why can’t you just fix what should have been working to begin with) I tried explaining to them that I only drive from work to home (20km) and that there is no way that in the 2 months I had created that much damage to the system. I tried explaining to Albert how that was impossible for me to have created all that damage, but he wouldn’t even humor me. At the end of the day, because I had made the purchase, the service discontinued. I was made to feel like I had broken it and that because it’s mine, I must deal with it. I asked if they could at least throw in the reseal of the transfer case, but Albert just requested to “pay” for half of it like he was doing me a favor.

Things NOT fixed in the car:

1. Filters (Both cabin and Air): NEVER REPLACED. I know that the previous owners had dogs because there was enough hair to make him.
2. Oil: Spent around $340 for a whole flush as the oil in the engine was essentially black AND really low.

To emphasize how I know they chose to do nothing is because this vehicle’s CARFAX states that, ALL services, oil changes, you name it, were done at Northstar Hyundai. It was as if the couple enjoyed services as their list was so extensive. So, to have these situations and issues be present is really concerning. Everything done to this vehicle was done there so it’s very suspicious how all this was missed.

zero stars. I bought a used car for 26k all said and done and it broke within a month. I had it repaired under the extended warranty plan I bought. It broke again, same problem 2 days later. I told Northstar Hyundai about the issue of it not starting 3 times in 1 week, and told them I think they sold me a defective vehicle and I want them to take it back. It also had issued with the CD player overheating, which they said isnt a safety issue so even if it was sold to me broken they cant help me.

They said vehicles break down, some are unreliable and even if they dont start, after someone buys it, the vehicle isnt their issue and they cant help me. I pleaded with them and showed them their guarantee on their website and told them I would buy another vehicle from them, I am desperate now to not be stuck with a defective vehicle.

They would not exchange my vehicle like advertised on their website but they would buy my defective vehicle back as a trade in for a new 2020 Hyundai. They had me. I was completely at their disposal, a helpless consumer stuck with a defective purchase. I had no idea if my car would start when I needed it, they know I am out tens of thousands of dollars and they are my only hope for any resolution that wouldn't financially cripple me.

I walked away buying a new 2020 vehicle worth $26,000 and I'm paying $33,000 for it. They had charges for whenever they wanted to charge me... $500 block heater fee, $500 for etching fee, plus whatever they felt like giving me for my trade in. They said the most they will take my original car back for is $16500. I tried to negotiate anything extra into the deal and told them i dont want to pay all those extra charges... they said no. Then I gave them a referral code for their go auto referral bonus and they said it doesnt apply because now I'm a 2nd time buyer. According to their website 2nd time buyers get $500 self referral bonus off the car, I asked for this and they said no. They had a $500 winter tire credit offer, they said no. I was completely at their mercy and I have never felt so powerless.

Today I am the owner of a new car with a sticker price of $26,000 car that has a $33,000 loan on it. I feel financially violated and taken advantage of. I am so angry and sad and disappointed in myself. I am grateful they took it back on trade as legally they didnt have to. The sales team were very nice and most actually went above and beyond to help take such terrible advantage of me.

They stole $7,000 from me and I thanked them.

Last Thursday my husband and I dropped into your show room to look around. Moe introduced himself and I told him I was only looking and that I was not going to purchase a vehicle that day. He was very pleasant and answered all the questions that I threw at him. Well I walked out of your showroom and hour or so later BUYING a new vehicle. Moe was very pleasant, knowledgeable and caring in providing me with a vehicle that met my needs and budget. I am very, very pleased with my purchase and will defiantly pass his name on to others. Kudos to Moe!!!!!!!

Changed the timing belt and took two times coming back to fix the squeal and then on a road trip to find out the cruise didn't work, they fixed it but said it was accidently dis engaged when working on the car the time before. how nice, thanks! , Took 2 1/2 hours for a simple oil change. Service girls voices carry and they don't realize it as they gossip about customers that are sitting there. So if they gossip and lie about people they don't know, how can even a co worker trust them. Guess, they just want attention and not happy campers!

By far WORST service. 2 hours for an oil change? Staff doesn't do anything unless you ask at least twice. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. USELESS staff.

I give northstar Hyundai the lowest rating possible and will never recommend them to anyone even if I was offered to be payed. They ripped me off got a Hyundai Elantra GLS moved out of province and to get back unable to pass any safety with a long list of warranty parts but they are uncooperative and left me with paying for a un registrable car that is un reliable unsafe and not able to drive . I strongly recommend staying far away

We bought a used Hyundai santa Fe in 2012. We should have realised from the beginning that they had not done a quality inspection. We drove to Calgary from Edmonton and realised the lights were not working - it was fun driving home in the dark! They did fix it - supposedly a fuse had just gone!

This year we discovered that the front bumper was not attached properly - the clips had broken and someone had glued them together and the glue had failed!
The sales manager said we had the car for two years and we could have done this! Would not give us his business card. Would not help at all. We are second class citizens.

I give this dealership 0/10. I bought my car a year ago and went to go check my go auto points the other day to find out I only have 30 points when I should have 1000. Not only did the new sales guy lie to me about getting a check in the mail and that the points were redeemable for money, I only have 30 points. I'm not a happy customer with the sales team that they have and how they treat clients like me. I was told one thing and when I questioned the sales guy about he told me that he did not say and I was lying. I was not the only one who heard him say that I would be receiving a check for $500 in the mail and if I referred someone I would also be getting another $500 in the mail, my boyfriend was with me at the time and heard the exact same thing and even questioned me on why the check did not come. When I referred my cousin to this dealership I expected to get the $500 in the mail as well and the $500 when I purchased the new car it never came. I do not care about not receiving cash for my points I just want my go auto points that I deserve. I do have a lot of patience, but this is super annoying and unprofessional it has been a year since I bought my car and I didn't expect to see that I only had 30 points. I have never used a single one of them and I expect to be reimbursed for this. If you tell you client that they are lying its a big smack in the face. I am a honest person and do not wish to get anyone in trouble, but I am sick of being taken advantage of by greedy sales guys who only wish to make themselves look good. If you go to this dealership make sure you bring a recording tape because they will tell you something and say another. I spent a lot of money on my new car and I should be treated with respect just as any other person who has purchased a car from this dealership. People don't spend money to get terrible services and be fed b#$%&*@t. If I could I would have never bought a car from this place and took my business else where.

My wife and I went to North star to buy a SUV,after giving the sale`s person her SIN number and they run a credit check they bring out a 2008 Hyundai Tuscon. We test drove the unit and my wife loved it.She told them what she could afford each month and was told no problem. We kept asking the sale`s woman what the price was and were repeatedly told that she did not know(I guess it is a state secret!!!)This was on sat,she was told she was approved but no amount still given after hearing from no less than 5 different people to the point of harassment she was told to come in Tues that she was approved.

After finding out the monthly payments were way to high I told her we should leave but she really liked the unit and knew the interest would be high as she has no credit. The sales manager said they made a mistake and that it was the wrong price that it was $3000 lower so she cut a deal and told them to install a remote starter and add it to the purchase price which ended up being $750.She was told that she could pick it up wed at 6 then got a call at 5:30 saying the shop never had the right part.then was told she could pick it up at 6 Thurs same thing phone call saying the shop was backed up and it would be ready Friday and again same thing Friday.e then told them to take the remote starter out of the picture and refund the money that the bank had all ready paid them back to us so we could take it to best buy or future shop and get one.

She was told it was ready to be picked up sat we went in and it was dirty inside and had no gas in it.I talked to sales manager Terry and he ended up giving her a whooping 20 gas coupon at the coop. She was told that the cheque`s are not written until Tues and Thurs and that hers would be ready on Tues. She left the city for seminar on sat and got back wed night hoping her cheque would be there. She called and was told it would be ready Thurs. She went there Friday night and was told they could not find it and that it would be sent by courier to our house Monday.i am posting this now Sunday because i know she will not see it tomorrow and will update if she does.we have contacted Julie Matthews from global TV Trouble Shooter because I am positive there will be no cheque for 750 waiting after work tomorrow.I think it#s sad that we need to do that just to get money back that was paid to them to begin with.Do your self a favor people and avoid this dealership at all costs,I wish we would have read reviews before going in to North-star but will never make that mistake again

Poor business practice takes the fun out of buying a car. This is what you will find at Northstar Hyundai. Have to say Hyundai is making a great product at a very competitive price...but go to Sherwood Hyundai, or West Ed Hyundai for more professionally run dealers. We go to West Ed Hyundai now, they seem to appreciate the business a lot more.

I’ve only purchased two brand new vechicles, a Subaru Impreza and a Hyundai Elantra Touring. Buying the Impreza from Subaru City was simple, and I had great service and followthrough from my sales rep. Buying the Elantra was nothing but hassle, and there is no way I would ever recommend this dealership to anyone.

Their finance department is overwhelmed, their sales people don’t care what happens after you sign the deal, they seem to have no idea how to communicate with customers or manage their sales process at all.

We went in on a Wednesday evening, test drove the Elantra Touring, went out and thought about our decision, and came back that evening to buy it. We were told that there were a few things included in the price: mud flaps, block heater, a full gas tank, and a trip to Las Vegas. We signed the deal and left $1000 deposit, and they told us our financing would be taken care of, and the car would be ready the next day for pickup. Great!

Except that the next day, the finance department couldn’t get anything arranged. I understand that they’re busy, and the banks are busy, my issue is that they didn’t contact us to keep us informed of progress. Same deal on Friday. Saturday, they finally get back to us to let us know that the bank would like both of our names on the finance application. We had asked whether having both names on would be a better choice when we filled out the application and were told it didn’t matter. By the time they got back to us, it was too late on Saturday for them to be able to add in the additional information on the application. So the car we were supposed to get on Thursday wouldn’t be available for us until Monday. Not a huge deal, really.

Monday rolls around, we call at 8:30 when they said that their finance people would be available, but they’re not in the office yet. Same deal at 9. And 9:15. At 9:30, I left a message, which was returned sometime around lunch. I gave them the information and asked to be informed of progress. By the end of day Monday, they hadn’t called, so I called them, left a message, and they managed to return it before closing to say that the financing was good, we could pick up the car on Tuesday. Finally!

Tuesday morning, they called to say we might not be able to pick it up because the hitch we requested for our bike carrier might not be finished. Then they called back to say it was definitely going to be ready. 10 minutes before leaving to pick it up, I got a call saying that it wouldn’t be ready until Thursday now, but we could get all the paperwork done at least. So frustrating!! But we went by to do the paperwork anyway. They of course try to sell us the undercoating, the loan protector insurance, and act like we’re incredibly stupid for declining. We finally get suckered into some of their offers, process most of the papers, then finally see the price that we’re signing—it’s almost $2000 higher than what they told us.

The sales manager comes in, a guy who seems like he’d be a semi-normal guy outside of work but acts like a creepy, fake, skeezey car guy at work, and he wants to know what he can do to make us happy. What can you do? Go back in time and convince me not to buy a car from you, that would be nice. But alternatively, sell me the car for the price you told us! Not something he can do, he says, the list of things we were told was included, well, those things aren’t actually included. We end up “splitting the difference” – not evenly, of course. He took $700 off the price, saying it was all he could do when there’s such a small markup. Ha! By that point, we were just ready to be done and went along with it.

So on Thursday, one full week late, we can finally get our car. The ordeal will be over, we think, we can drive away and enjoy our vehicle. Our sales guy isn’t ready for us, but when he manages to get to us, he tells us he just needs to find the second key. We see him leaning on a table and laughing with someone, and about ten minutes later he comes back and tells us that they can’t get us the second key because it’s locked up and the guy who has the key isn’t there. I really thought he was joking, but he was serious! We did get the car that evening, thankfully. But when we went back the next day to pick up the key which would supposedly be available, we were told that they don’t actually have the key, they’ll have to order us in a second one, then we’ll have to come back and get it programmed for our car. Wow. We’re still waiting on that part.

I’m amazed that they can function this badly. If you’re selling a car that requires an extra feature to be installed, how about checking to make sure it can be installed by the time you’re promising? If a car comes with two keys, how about making sure you have both those keys sometime before the customer shows up? If you can’t arrange financing quickly, don’t tell people you can! If I had been told that I could have my car in one week, that would have been just fine. But to be told I could have it the next day, then, wait, maybe the next day, well how about two days from now, then just come back again...that’s bad management and bad service. I’m scared to see what it’s going to be like bringing it in for servicing.

Individually, none of those things are that bad. But in combination, they make for a very poor buying experience. I really like my car. It’s great, and the price is fine. I’d recommend the vehicle, but definitely not the dealership!

I left them a deposit to 'secure' the vehicle of my choice and in the following three days it took for them to return phone calls to check progress on financing I found out they were nowhere with my deal. I ran into a bit of financial need and asked for part of my down payment while they continued to work on my financing and I was told NO REFUNDS ON DOWNPAYMENT NOT EVEN PARTIAL until i spoke with a manager who was unavailable. Their Assistant Finance Manager wasn't allowed and she said its not that she wasn't capable it just wasnt policy.
In the meantime I am short rent money from some bad math, however she didnt care that she only had to return part of the 700 dollars I gave her.
Sales people need to be upfront in writing.
Policies should be clearly stated. When I gave the deposit I was told it fully refundable at anytime by anyone available.

Our agent Murray last year got us into a truck with really high monthly payments with the promise that they could be lowered after one year of it. Well it turns out that was a big lie to get us to buy. Northstar Hyundai will not do anything, they said he doesn't work there anymore so too bad so sad. Do not buy from these people, it was the biggest mistake of our lives. I'd give them no stars but I had to pick a half to get this posted.
